Short answer. Yes. QuickBooks Online has an Accounting API, using OAuth 2.0, that lets a custom app create and read customers, estimates, invoices, payments, items and time activity, with webhooks for changes. Intuit meters some data reads, but the free tier is far more than a single company’s app normally uses.

What can connect?

QuickBooks Online’s Accounting API lets a custom app work with customers, vendors, items, estimates, invoices, payments, sales receipts, bills, purchase orders and time activity. Webhooks tell the app when records change in QuickBooks.

What do clients use it for?

  • Turning completed jobs into invoices (field-service dispatch, construction)
  • Sending timecards to QuickBooks for payroll and job costing
  • Showing which invoices are paid, without a QuickBooks login
  • Keeping the customer list the same in both places

How is access controlled?

Connections use OAuth 2.0: someone at your company signs in to QuickBooks and approves the app, and can disconnect it at any time. How we handle client data.

Does Intuit charge for the API?

Since July 2025, Intuit’s App Partner Program meters some requests that read data out of QuickBooks. Writing data in is not metered, and the free Builder tier includes 500,000 metered calls a month, which a single company’s app normally stays well within.
