Jobber and Housecall Pro vs. a custom field-service app
For most small home-service companies, Jobber or Housecall Pro is the right answer. Here is how to tell whether yours is one of the exceptions.
Short answer. For most small residential service companies, Jobber ($29 to $399 a month billed annually) or Housecall Pro ($59 to $299), as of September 2026, is the right answer, with booking, invoicing and payments built in. A custom field-service app makes sense when commercial, inspection or compliance work, crew size or integrations do not fit their shape.
How do they compare at a glance?

What is Jobber good at?
Quotes, scheduling, invoicing, online payments, a client hub and a crew app, with routing, GPS and job costing on higher plans. Prices are per account with users included: Core $49 a month ($29 billed annually) for 1 user, Connect $139 ($99) for up to 5, Grow $199 ($149) for up to 10, and Plus $499 ($399) with 5 users included and up to 15, at $29 a month for each extra user.
What is Housecall Pro good at?
Online booking, scheduling and dispatch, quotes, invoices, payment reminders and review collection, with route optimization, checklists, photo reports, GPS and QuickBooks sync from Essentials up. Basic $79 a month ($59 billed annually) for 1 user, Essentials $189 ($149) for 5, and MAX $329 ($299) for 8, with extra users at $35 a month.
When do they stop fitting?
- Commercial, industrial or inspection work whose steps, checklists or compliance records do not fit a residential-service shape
- Crews larger than the plans allow, or a growing bill for extra users
- Systems they do not connect to, such as an ERP, a supplier portal or your own customer database
- Inventory, equipment or quoting rules that need to live in the same app as dispatch
When should you stay with Jobber or Housecall Pro?
- You run standard residential service work.
- You want booking, invoicing and payments built in from day one. In a custom app those are extra work, or stay in QuickBooks.
- Your crew fits comfortably inside a plan.
How much do they cost compared with a custom app?
Jobber: $29 to $399 a month billed annually. Housecall Pro: $59 to $299 a month billed annually. Both offer 14-day free trials.
A custom app costs more up front: Discovery is $1,500, most projects cost $8,000 to $80,000, and hosting is paid directly to the provider, usually $50 to $200 a month. There is no per-user or per-volunteer fee from Sarasoris. It pays back when it replaces several subscriptions, saves staff hours every week, or does something no product on the market will do.
