## Subcontract Android development

Android apps for agencies and product teams: native Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, or React Native shared with iPhone, tested on the phones people actually carry and released through Google Play.
Often for teams that already have an iPhone app and a client asking where the Android version is. White-label, in your repository, under your client’s Google Play account.

**Short answer.** We build Android apps white-label in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, or in React Native when one codebase should serve Android and iPhone. We match an existing iOS app’s features while following Android’s own conventions, test across screen sizes and Android versions, and publish through your client’s Google Play Console. Rates are agreed in writing.

### You have an iPhone app. Can we match it on Android?

Yes, feature for feature, without making it an iPhone app in disguise. Android users expect the system back gesture, Android-style notifications and sharing, and Material controls, and apps that ignore them collect poor reviews. We work from the iOS app and its designs, list where the two should differ, and agree that list with you before building.

### What does the work include?

- Screens in Jetpack Compose, following Material Design or your designer’s files
- Push notifications, deep links and sign-in with Google where the app needs them
- Offline use, so the app keeps working without a signal and catches up later
- Connection to your existing API, the same one the iPhone app uses, or a new back end
- TalkBack, font scaling and contrast checked, so the app works for people who rely on them
- Testing on small and large phones, tablets and the older Android versions you agree to support
- The Google Play listing, data safety form, test tracks and release

### How do you handle so many different Android phones?

By agreeing early which Android versions and screen sizes the app supports, testing across that range on devices and emulators, and building layouts that adapt instead of assuming one screen. Budget phones are slower than the one on a developer’s desk, so we check performance on them too.

### Kotlin or React Native?

Kotlin and Jetpack Compose suit an Android app with a native Swift sibling, or one that leans hard on the device: background work, Bluetooth, the camera. React Native suits teams that want one codebase for both platforms. If the iPhone app is already written in React Native, the Android version may be most of the way there.

### Questions

#### Whose Google Play account does the app go under?

Your client’s. The app, its listing and its signing setup stay in the client’s Play Console. We are added as a user, and removed when the work is done if you ask.

#### Which Android versions do you support?

The ones you agree on with your client. We suggest a range based on who will use the app, and test across it.

#### Can you take over an existing Android app?

Yes. We get it building with current tools, list what is sound and what is risky, then pick up the work.

#### Do you build the iPhone version too?

Yes, in Swift or React Native; see [subcontract iOS development](https://sarasoris.com/subcontract-ios-development).

#### How is Android development priced?

By the project or by the hour, at a rate agreed in writing. Send us the iPhone app or the brief, and we will reply with a price.
